Pahar Trust Nepal was founded by two friends and former Queen's Gurkha Engineers, Tom Langridge MBE and Chandra Bahadur Gurung with a mission to provide improved school buildings and education in the remote mountain communities of Nepal. For 200 years the Gurkhas have served Britain and over 43,000 have died in service. True to its origins and links to the Gurkhas the Trust continues to honour and support many of the Gurkha communities in Nepal.

The first school, in the village of Pokhari Thok, was completed in 1991. Due to their expert skills, training, local knowledge and desire to improve the lives of Nepal's next generation, ex-Gurkha officers were employed to organise and oversee school building projects. Based on the success of this first project the aims of the Trust expanded to provide schools for other communities in need and, in 1993 the charity was registered in the UK and the Isle of Man. In 2005 Tom Langridge MBE retired as Chairman of the Foundation and the position was taken over by Howard Green MBE. With Howard's background in education improvement and teacher training the Trust developed to focus on improving the quality of teaching as well as the provision of new schools. In 2013 the team in Nepal were registered as an NGO at the District Administration Office Kaski (Registered No 3047) and affiliated to Social Welfare Council (Affiliated No 37327) with the main focus to construct schools in remote areas of Nepal.
